Introductory Letter

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in exploring the psychology internship program at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care, in affiliation with Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in Piscataway, New Jersey. UBHC is the mental health service delivery component of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. It is also one of the largest and most comprehensive mental health systems in the country.

Our internship focuses on the advanced development of clinical competencies and as such, is largely treatment focused. We provide outstanding opportunities for training with a variety of client populations. Our consumer base is represented by a full spectrum of mental health disorders. We provide services to all ages. We treat a diverse, multi-cultural clientele population. Our programming is quite extensive and we offer unique programs in specialty areas that include: child partial services; school-based treatment; forensic psychology; Latino mental health and severe and persistent mental health disorders. Please take the time to look over all the possible training opportunities.

We have 5 funded positions available which pay an annual stipend of $25,000. We do adhere to APPIC requirements and ask that you complete the APPIC application. We participate in the APPIC Internship Matching Program. Therefore, you must obtain an Applicant Agreement Package from the National Matching Services and register for the Matching Program in order to be eligible to match our program. Along with the APPIC application, please include your CV and three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who are in a position to evaluate your clinical skill and performance. We also request an official graduate school transcript as part of the APPIC application. In addition, please provide one written work sample, representing assessment/treatment of a client. Applications may be filed until the deadline of November 18th. Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so it is recommended that you submit your application as early as possible. We require in-person interviews. Chosen candidates will be invited to one of three interview dates scheduled in December and January.

We require applicants to come from an A.P.A. or C.P.A. accredited graduate program in clinical, counseling or school psychology and to have completed all or almost all of their degree requirements. This includes successful completion of comprehensive or qualifying exams and successful dissertation proposal and at least two years of practicum placement. Although not a requirement, we do prefer candidates that have had a minimum of 600 face to face client contact hours
