Thank you for your interest in the doctoral psychology internship program at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC). Rutgers UBHC is the mental health service delivery component of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). It is also one of the largest and most comprehensive mental health service delivery systems in the country.
Our internship focuses on the advanced development of clinical skills. We provide outstanding opportunities for training with a wide variety of client populations receiving services in a wide variety of treatment settings. Our 5 major rotation tracks are offered in specialty areas that include child partial hospital services, adolescent school-based treatment, adolescent forensic services, adult outpatient mental health, and severe and persistent mental health disorders. We also provide opportunities for minor rotations in tobacco dependence treatment, acute psychiatric services, forensic settings, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Family Medicine, neuropsychological services, Children’s Specialized Services, and consultation / liaison. As part of an academic medical center, we have access to many faculty members conducting clinical research as well. Our program is primarily CBT based.
Our 5 funded positions pay an annual stipend of $25,000. We adhere to APPIC requirements and participate in the APPIC Internship Matching Program. We therefore ask that you complete the APPIC application, obtain an Applicant Agreement Package from the National Matching Services, and register for the Matching Program.
Along with the APPIC application, please include your CV and three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who are in a position to evaluate your clinical skill and to comment on your strengths and weaknesses. We also request an official graduate school transcript as part of the APPIC application. In addition, please provide one (1) written work sample representing assessment/treatment of a client.
Applications may be filed until the deadline of November 19th. Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so it is recommended that you submit your application as early as possible. The top applicants will be invited to one of three required in-person interviews. These interviews are scheduled for December 7, 2018, December 14, 2018 and January 11, 2019.
We require applicants to come from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program in clinical or counseling psychology. We further require successful completion of the following degree requirements: comprehensive/qualifying exams, official acceptance of a dissertation proposal, and at least two years of practicum placement.
Rutgers RBHS is committed to recruiting and maintaining a diverse professional staff and student body. Likewise, our doctoral psychology internship is committed to recruiting diverse interns. Within the last 11 years, 67% of our interns have been of minority/non-dominant cultural identification.
