Why Consider an EAP

Personal problems that carry over into the workplace can cause stress, lower productivity and even create uncomfortable situations for co-workers and colleagues.

From absenteeism to sick leave abuse and high employee turnover to distractions and even damage to company property, the overall well being of your employees can be an asset to your organization's growth.

With the constant demands on each of us to balance our work and family lives, it's more important than ever to aid your staff with the additional tools they need to remain productive.

Consider these statistics and how the UBHC EAP can help:

Liability from Problem Employees UBHC's EAP Reduces Liability Exposure
Alcohol and Substance Abuse:
Workplace alcohol use and impairment directly affects 15% of the U.S. workforce, or 19.2 million workers. (Journal of Studies on Alcohol, January 2006) The UBHC EAP will work with you to create a drug and alcohol policy to protect the organization and its employees.
Depression:
Employees who experience both depression and stress utilize healthcare at a rate 250% higher than regular employees, a difference of $3,000 per employee, per year. (Milliman & Robertson, 2000) EAPs represent a mainstreaming of identification, referral and treatment of people with behavioral disorders and personal problems. (Blum, T.C. and Roman, P.M., 1989.)
Workplace Violence:
Workplace violence is the 6th leading cause of workplace mortality and is the leading cause of death for women. The creation of EAPs in the workplace has made a tremendous difference in the ability of employees facing abuse to escape violence at home and make a valuable contribution at work. (Family Violence Prevention Fund)
Critical Incidents:
Critical incidents, single events with the power to cause unusual psychological distress in healthy normal people, are on the rise. Although their human toll is incalculable, they cost the economy $4 B + a year. (Crisis Solutions, Inc, 2006) The role of the UBHC EAP is to coordinate Critical Incident Management (CIM) services before, during and after a critical or traumatic incident.
Dependent Care:
44% of the nation's 76 million baby boomers are in a position of having responsibility for both an aging parent and children. (AARP, August 2001) The UBHC EAP is designed to assist employees with these issues and more. The EAP will call prospective providers to verify the costs, accuracy and regulation data. In addition, we will find out whether the provider offers services that meet the needs of the employee.
