Katie Hilton, LPC, is a training and consultation specialist who coordinates, develops, and delivers professional trainings within the Rutgers-UBHC Behavioral Research and Training Institute. Katie has extensive experience in working with individuals and families with unique and diverse backgrounds. She has over 18 years of clinical experience and has specialized in the treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. Prior to joining the Behavioral Research and Training Institute, Katie headed the Rutgers-UBHC Monmouth Junction mental health clinic, where she oversaw Adult Acute Partial Hospitalization and Traditional Outpatient Services in the role of Program Manager. While with the Acute Partial Hospitalization Program, Katie worked with the Department of Schizophrenia Research on an Attention Shaping Project by facilitating a manualized group. She also piloted a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment group for clients with PTSD in conjunction with a team of researchers from Boston University who were partnering with Rutgers. She facilitates professional development events for Rutgers-UBHC, helping staff across the state who provide mental health and behavioral health services learn about person-centered, trauma informed care and evidenced based treatments. Katie has experience working on grant funded projects in partnership with SAMHSA, NJ Department of Labor, NJ Division of Children and Families and the NJ Attorney General’s Office. As the Training and Consultation Specialist on a SAMHSA grant, Katie develops and facilitates trainings on assigned grant topics for the multidisciplinary team. She is also developing a training curriculum specifically for the peer support staff working in the program. With regards to her work with the Division of Children and Families, Katie provides comprehensive Motivational Interviewing education by providing training to clinical staff and supervisory staff as well as MI skills practice sessions and BECCI coding supervision sessions. She works with the RU Integrated Substance Use Disorder Training Program. Katie specializes in working with trauma exposure, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Community Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.
