Applicant Qualifications

Qualified applicants for the Psychology Internship Program should satisfy the following criteria.

  • Current matriculation in an APA-approved doctoral program in clinical psychology or counseling psychology.
  • Possession of a Master's degree.
  • Completion of all required course work.
  • Dissertation proposal scheduled no later than rank-order submission day (2/2024)
  • Strong interest in work with diverse populations as demonstrated by one or more of the following: practicum experience with diverse populations; course work in diversity; research in areas related to work with diverse populations; participation in volunteer experiences and professional experiences in this area.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an educated and critical consumer of psychological research, or to be a contributor back to such research.

Applicants for the child track should demonstrate interest in clinical work with children and adolescents as evidenced by one or more of the following: practicum experience with children, adolescents, and families; coursework in developmental areas; research in clinical child psychology; participation in volunteer experiences and professional experiences in this area.

Applicants for the adult track should demonstrate a concentration in work with adults or geriatric patients in the same ways.

Applicants for the adult correctional/forensic track should demonstrate an interest and aptitude for clinical work with prison populations as evidenced by their previous choices of practicum experiences, course work, research, volunteer and/or professional activities. Adult forensic track interns must have access to their own car in order to travel between Rutgers UBHC and various prison settings.
