The Alzheimer's Resource Center

The COPSA Alzheimer's Resource Center was created to help New Jersey residents cope with the many challenges they face in caring for someone with a dementia. Staff provide information about the disease as well as guidance in providing day to day care. Callers can learn about community services such as day care and, home care. They can find out about benefit programs and receive referrals to local services.

Much of this is provided through our Helpline using an approach we call Caregiver Coaching. As an illness progresses the needs of the patient and families also change. Callers are encouraged to stay in touch. Many receive support and guidance throughout the course of care.

Resource Center staff are often invited to speak at senior centers, health fairs and community meetings. They present on a variety of issues related to aging.

Resource Center staff also facilitate support groups including a "Young Wives Group." It is specifically for women whose partners have developed a dementia in their 30's, 40's or 50's. And a spouse group for husbands or wives who are dementia caregivers.

In New Jersey the COPSA Resource Center may be contacted Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30, by calling
